Longhouse Construction Update

August 17, 2026 update from Naikoon Contracting Ltd.

The Ahousaht Longhouse continues to move forward, with the overall project now approximately 45% complete. Current work includes windows, exterior wall waterproofing and cladding, along with electrical and HVAC systems.

Civil Works Nearing Completion

Civil works are now approximately 95% complete, according to McGill Engineering & Associates. This includes major site work including the road, servicing, drainage and utilities surrounding the Longhouse.

This brings one of the more challenging phases of the project close to completion. Much of this work takes place below or around the building and will be less visible once construction is complete. Crews have also had to work through challenging Flores Island rock, including areas where deep excavation was required to reach stable rock.
