Take a few minutes to read what’s been happening in the community. 👉 Read the Newsletter Welcome to ʕaaḥuusʔatḥWelcome to the official website of the ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ Nation. ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ is one of fourteen Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, meaning “our backs against the mountains.” Ahousaht is the English spelling most commonly used in government and historical records. More than 2,400 members belong to the ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ Nation, with families and community connections extending across Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and beyond. Many members live in Maaqtusiis, a quiet coastal community known for its strong culture, traditions, and connection to the ocean. Visitors can reach Maaqtusiis by water taxi from the Tofino Main Street Dock, a scenic 30–40 minute trip along the west coast. We encourage guests to travel with ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ-owned and operated water taxi services to support local businesses and enjoy an authentic community experience. |

Message from Scott at the Transfer StationGreat job, Ahousaht It’s really encouraging to see more households composting and doing their part to reduce garbage. Over the past pickup, the crew collected about 60 compost buckets, up from 44 buckets two weeks ago, and just over 20 buckets per week before that. All of that compost will be turned into soil for use in the community. If you need a compost bucket, recycling bin, or bags, feel free to reach out to Scott or the crew. They’re happy to help get you set up. Our goal is to reduce the number of garbage bins sent out by barge from four down to one or two, and with everyone’s help, we can get there together. |
