Ahousaht Longhouse Construction Update

Major structural work is complete, and the interior is beginning to take shape.

The Ahousaht Longhouse continues to take shape, with another major milestone reached this month.

As of July 12, the Longhouse superstructure reached substantial completion.

The concrete slab-on-grade floor was poured, finished, sealed and sawcut on June 17. Since then, crews have completed the second phase of glulam beams, nail-laminated timber (NLT) ceilings, roof parapets and the phase two roof vapour barrier.

Work is now focused on exterior wall membranes and insulation, while interior wall framing continues throughout the building. With the mass timber ceilings and finished concrete floors in place, the layout and scale of the Longhouse are becoming much easier to see.

The ceremonial east entrance will overlook the future gathering circle, creating a welcoming entrance and an important connection between the Longhouse and the surrounding outdoor space.
