Internet Troubleshooting
Ahousaht offers Telus wi-fi for the community. Julia Campbell manages set-ups and payments for the wi-fi.
Ahousaht provides the internet from the microwave transmitter just outside T-Bird Hall to your house or business, the modem that connects to the wall is the end of that service.
Devices connected to the modem are your responsibility, including but not limited to WiFi routers, computers, TV's, game systems, etc.
Internet slow-downs can be caused by the number of devices connected to your wifi, how many people have passwords to your wifi, and what kinds of things you are doing with the wifi. Some wifi routers are better than others. Each wifi router has settings that can also improve and hinder your usage, and are up to you to adjust.
For example, Netflix, streaming video and gaming takes up a lot of bandwidth. The more people use this in our village the more the internet will slow down. Test this by seeing what kind of speeds you get in the morning or just after lunch vs in the middle of the evening.
We recommend unplugging the main router modem from the wall, let it reset for 5 minutes then plug it back in. Any other devices connected to the modem router, e.g. a WiFi router, also unplug, reset and plug back in. Calling the toll-free support number will likely result in them telling you this same information.
